THE WORD, THE MEANS OF ETERNAL LIFE

We have clearly understood that eternal life is far more than a long life and an impersonal substance imparted. It is, the person of Jesus Christ, the era of His reign and the virtues of His being. Now, no matter from which angle a person approaches the "attainment" or the experience of eternal life, it must be by the Word. Hence our topic today. As a person, Jesus is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). As a virtue, the Word is life (John 1:4, 1 John 1:1-2). As an era, the Word is the truth of His reign (John 17:17, Psalm 96:10). Again, even our belief which is the means of awakening to eternal life, comes from hearing the Word. That is why Jesus clearly said, if you search the scriptures (the Word) you will land on Him (eternal life) - John 5:39.
