The EmancipatorETERNAL LIFE IS A PERSON, NOT A REWARD
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life
— 1 John 5:20
According to the central theme of the scriptures, eternal life, though described in many ways, is actually a person. That person is Jesus Christ, the Son of Yahweh. The thought that eternal life is a destination after death or an impersonal reward for believing in Jesus Christ, came from an incomplete appreciation of its divine character. Secondly, the description as "eternal life" often makes people think of it as the qualification to live eternally with God. Yet again, that is far short of what eternal life really is. The description entails much more than just the longevity of life. It describes the all-surpassing superiority of the quality of His being. As succinctly captured in our main verse today, Jesus Christ is the true God and eternal life. Thus, eternal life is the person of Jesus Christ. It is His being. That dimension of being is what He absorbed mankind into, in the regeneration.
Thank You, Father, for this profound insight into the meaning of eternal life. My life is set for an irreversible upgrade, and I am ever grateful in Jesus' Name.
